Take Charge of your Body

I found a lump in December of 2006. My doctor told me it was hormonal and not characteristic with breast cancer. I did get a mammogram and ultra-sound, and they both came back inconclusive. I was told to come back in 6 months. Well, I couldn't wait 6 months and went back in February 2007. I had to beg my doctor to do a biopsy or something..... He finally referred me to a general surgeon who sent me for an MRI, which came back showing something, and he did the biopsy. Two weeks later, I was told I had breast cancer in my right breast. I then contacted Dr. Friedman at Mercy who got the ball rolling. By April I had a mastectomy, started chemo in June, had radiation in October. I have had breast reconstruction and am feeling fine. My point is, do not let the doctors put you off. I had my first chemo treatment before I was suppose to go back for the follow up mammogram. I tell as many women as I can --- don't listen to the doctor when they tell you to wait and come back in so many months. You know your body and you can sense if something isn't right. I love talking to women who are going through what I did and pumping them up....you have to think of it as a small part of your life and you have to move ahead.
